Sat 17th December 2011 Ho, Ho, Ho. it's Christmas party time and this year, contrary to the previous 2 years, there would be no snow. We were once again at the Village Hotel in Farnborough and with pre dinner drinks out of the way and dinner finished it was down to doing what Diving Dreams does best (apart from diving), PARTYING. Yet again our crew led the way with the moves and falls. By the end of the evening, all had danced till they could dance no more, time for a quick nightcap as it was already stupid o'clock in the morning and then some well deserved sleep. The faces at breakfast said it all and although checkout was 11.00am, we were still slouched on the sofas by the warm fires two hours later.
Tue 18th/24th October 2011 This was the monster trip of 2011 and Lanzarote was the destination, once again staying at the Celeste apartments in Costa Teguise and being looked after by the ever enthusiastic and professional dive crew at Calipso Diving. This year GG would have to drive and guide, so everyone was quick off the mark to try to get into the other bus as those who snoozed would loose and end up with GG as their chauffeur. Once again the island didn't disappoint us, the diving was awesome. With a mixture of scenic wall dives, harbour wall bimbles and wreck dives, there was something for everyone. Whilst out there Cherry and Rise successfully completed their Wreck Speciality courses, well done to the both of them. With a mixture of both good diving and good socialising everyone had a good trip. I would like to thank all 18 who came on a fantastic trip and made it so memorable. Check out the videos on the home page. We'll be back very soon.
Sat/Sun 8th/9th October 2011 Well done to Ben on becoming a Deep and Wreck Speciality diver. Thanks goes to Andy for his help and letting me play. Camping in the wooden tents at Chepstow was a blast. Thank you both for such a fun weekend.
Sat/Sun 17th/18th September 2011 A big congratulations goes to Lipton, Mikey and Steve on becoming Open Water divers. Also a big thank you to all those that assisted on the course. What a great laugh was had by all. Well done goes espeicially to Lucie for leading certified divers as part of her Divemaster course - a great job in very difficult conditions. Once again, many congratulations to all.
Sat/Sun 10th/11th September 2011 A massive well done to Lipton on getting all his classroom and confined sessions completed over the weekend. A great effort overcoming all that was thrown at him. Well done mate.
Saturday 27th August 2011 Burners on, check. Beer and wine chilled, check. Large gazebo up, check. Then we're ready for another Diving Dreams BBQ. With an earlier start, maybe it would finish on the same day that it started, WRONG! Yet again a brilliant turnout, everyone had fun, food and just a little to drink, albeit for 12 hours. I would like to thank everyone for their generosity. You really are the best dive club by far.
Sunday 21st August 2011 Todays dive was again on the Mulberrys, but this one was for newly qualified and UK inexperienced divers. All buddy pairs consisted of at least one professionally qualified diver. The journey out was full of chat about what was going to happen and where we were going. The high light for Chrissy was seeing her old boat, Splinter which held so many fantastic memories, still working. Once there we all entered the water and made our way down the shotline, turning right to the mulberries. Yet again this dive didn't let us down. It never stops amazing me how much fish life is on such a small area. Much too soon, it was time to return to the boat and with Christine and Melv being the last back on the boat, this was Christine's longest ever UK sea dive. All kit stowed, Simon our skipper made for Bracklesham. It was great to see people enjoy their first UK dive. Once again I would to thank all on the dive for making it so much fun and to the crew for helping out. Thank you - you rock.
Friday 22nd July 2011 We all headed down to East Beach, Selsey for the long awaited dusk dive on the Mulberrys. With all the kit safely aboard our boat we were off on the short journey to the dive site. In their buddy pairs the boat gradually emptied, as everyone headed off on the adventures. With 10m of viz, this was a truly memorable time with large shoals of fish, crabs and one almighty conger just to mention a few. Now we all listened to the briefing, down the shotline and turn left he said, but it should have been right as most of us found out. Apart from Andy and Ryan who just kept going and ended up having a totally awesome dive seeing dog fish, a large plaice and even playing with a large lobster that had ventured out into the open. Before long it was time for us all to make our way back to the boat for the homeward journey. Once all the kit was off the boat and packed back in our cars, it was time for some well earned fish and chips. Oh and yes a nice cool pint. I would like to thank everyone on the trip for making it so much fun and especially Chrissy for sorting out the tides and times. Thank you.
Saturday 2nd / Sunday 3rd July 2011 After learning their Rescue Diver skills in the pool it was time for Cherry, Dave, Gavin and Ryan to put them into practice during the open water section of their course. Challenging scenarios where set and the crew got themselves into place. Well I can report that they all did extremely well and even managed to have fun. By the end of the weekend everyone was tired but extremely proud of their achievements. I would like to congratulate them all on a job well done and a big congratulations to Dave on becoming a Master Scuba Diver. I would like to thank the Diving Dreams crew for all their hard work over the weekend, they are truly the best assistants around.
Saturday 18th June 2011 A big congratulations to Cherry Mak, Clare Francis, Dave Edgar, Dave Hall, Derek Carpenter, Lucie Mcentee, Gavin Ryan and Ryan Pannell on successfully completing the Emergency First Response courses.
Friday 27th-Monday 30th May 2011 Coverack, Cornwall was our base for the weekend diving with Dive Action. After negotiating the very steep hill down to Porthoustock beach we boarded the rib and set sail for the wreck of the Volnay, The Volnay is fairly broken up but the 3 large boilers were quite a sight. The pair of wellington boots laying in a tyre were strange though! Before we knew it it was time to ascend and after a quick bite to eat and air refill, we set off again, this time to dive the Rock Island Bridge. This wreck lays on a sandy sea bed. It was a great bimble dive, with lots of life and artifacts to see. Back to camp and the earlier drizzle still showed no sign of clearing so, as sad as it was, we headed for the pub at St. Keverne for some home cooked food and a bevvy or 2. Andy introduced us a to new delicacy - lemon meringue pie and custard - even the chef had to double check that the order was right! Having sampled the combination, it was not as weird as we first thought! The following morning the weather was a bit brighter so after bacon sarnies, we headed back to the beach to dive The Manacles as requested by Lucie. An absolutely stunning dive with beautiful topography and marine life. Back on shore, the lovely ladies at the old lifeboat station served us with home made cakes and steaming mugs of tea. In the afternoon we dived the Rock Island Bridge for the second time and with buddy pairs heading in all directions we managed to cover the wreck from most angles. All sorts of things were spotted from brass hinges and wheels to many different types of crustations, not forgetting lots of scallops. Lucie and Adam decided to shore dive Porthoustock beach and saw all sorts of wonderful creatures, whilst TG, Tanya and Ryan went pasty hunting at Lizard Point. Back to base and the weather was still fine so the BBQ's were lit and we all ate, drank and some of us got merry on Clair Francis' fine home brewed red wine. Once again, there was much laughter to be heard from the McGhie mansion at bedtime but once everyone was warm and settled, the night soon fell quiet. Monday morning met us with more rain but we still managed to laugh as we packed the tents up ready for the long trek home. A fantastic weekend once again and many thanks to those of you that made the long journey. Unfortunately the basking sharks had gone in search of warmer waters but the resident marine creatures made the weekend worthwhile.
